British Whites are a rare old English breed with a colorful history in the US which began in 1941 when a few cows and a bull were spirited out of England when a German invasion seemed imminent. To protect the breed, the little herd was shipped to a Pennsylvania USA prison farm and safety. Thankfully, the herd survived and has grown and flourished over the past 50+ years. In the past decade a dedicated effort has been underway to promote the positive characteristics of British Whites in America and other nations. Judging from the growing herd book and many activities of the British White Cattle Association of America, the cattle world is beginning to appreciate and acknowledge the traits we are so proud of:
Docility and easy handling
Fertility, easy calving and milking ability..great Mama cows
Easy keeping with tolerance for extreme weather conditions
Tender and tasty steaks, roasts and burgers
High dressing and grading percentages...restaurant quality meat
Ideal for the small operator...it costs the same or less to raise premium British Whites for the purebred market as it does to raise commercial cattle for the feedlot
